How to Plan the Perfect Proposal - With Bonus Ideas

Did you know that “engagement season” starts Thanksgiving weekend and runs through Valentine’s Day? Yes this is a real thing! With Thanksgiving just around the corner we thought we could give all of the guys some tips and tricks when it comes to planning that perfect proposal. After all you only get one shot right!?  

Location & Set up

This maybe one of the most important factors of your proposal. The place you pick will have sentimental value to the two of you from now on. So put a little thought into where you would like to do it. My dad proposed to my mom at the West Texas Western store in the mall where she worked. While not necessarily the most romantic location, no offense dad, 20+ years later that store still holds a special place in their hearts. So pick somewhere you would be proud to remember 20, 30, 50 years down the road! Have a special spot in the park? A favorite date night location? Just simply want a gorgeous backdrop for the photos and video you are going to hire us to take? (I mean we do have the second largest Canyon in the United States in our back yard!) These are somethings to think about when picking you’re location.

Also consider the set up. Will the two of you be there together or will she be arriving to find you there already? If she is arriving at a later time or if you plan on asking as soon as the two of you arrive at the spot consider putting a little effort into the look of the location. Buy some rose petals, a few candles, have pictures of the two of you displayed. There are so many ways you can make it look beautiful and have meaning! Doing it outside? Make sure your timing and location is in compliments to the location of the sun and wind (thanks to the Texas Panhandle am I right!?)

Photographer/Videographer

Now I know you just spent your life’s savings on a ring, however there’s still a few more things you should consider splurging on. You are about to ask your best friend to spend the rest of your life with you. This is a BIG deal! Hire someone (preferably us) to capture this special moment for you, so that the two of you can cherish it forever. At the very LEAST hire a photographer to snap a few pictures of the event. Also, consider hiring a videographer to capture it on video. Your future bride will be in shock and so overwhelmed with emotions that the moment will become a blur in the future. Make sure you give her a way to remember how she felt in that moment for the rest of her life!

Make sure she’s prepared

Every girl has dreamt about the way her future prince will capture her heart forever. Make sure she feels her best in the moment especially if you are capturing it on camera! She will want her hair and make up to look nice, her outfit to be appropriate, and her nails to be done so she can show off that rock! If she’s not one to get extremely dressed up then don’t make her! Just make sure she feels and looks her best.

After Partayyyyy

Now that you just had the best moment of your life (so far), invite your friends and family to celebrate with you! Whether it is immediately following the proposal and set up as another surprise for your now fiancé, or a few days or weeks later, have a get together planned! Show that girl off and let her brag about how awesome you did planning the most romantic proposal of the century!   

Lastly, don’t get overwhelmed in the planning process, and make sure that whatever you plan is a reflection of your relationship and the love of your life. Not a flashy couple? Then a small intimate moment is the way to go! Have a girl who loves to feel like a princess? Make her feel like the light of the world and show her off the way she deserves! Whatever you do just make it meaningful and put some thought and preparation into it!

The Go Big or Go Home Proposal. Make a full day out of it. Have one of her friends pick her up with a note from you explaining that the friend will be taking her out to find the perfect outfit, get her hair, make up and nails done and enjoy a day on the town together. Pick a place that has sentimental value and meaning to the two of you. Take her on a surprise date to your special spot and get down on that knee! Don’t forget to have us hiding somewhere near to capture the magic!
